Many things can lead to misaligned teeth. Some people are born with the anomalies while others ruin the alignment of their teeth with poor oral habits such as thumb-sucking. When one has misaligned teeth, smiling and talking can be a challenge, and their self-esteem is also significantly affected. The best treatment for the problem, regardless of the age of the patient, is to get dental braces to realign the teeth. It is, however, important to realise that not all braces are of great quality. You should follow these tips when looking for dental supplies.

Checking the material of the braces

Dental braces are made up of the wires and the brackets. The ideal brackets should be made from corrosion resistant materials such as stainless steel, ceramic or titanium. Most people will opt for the stainless steel brackets because they are the most affordable.  Good quality wires will also be made from either stainless steel or a titanium alloy. When selecting the braces, therefore, the first question which you need to ask is whether the brackets and the wires are made from these corrosion resistant materials. It is also possible to get tooth coloured brackets and wires for patients who want them to look less obtrusive.

Choosing a wire holding system

When installing braces, you need to have a system of holding the wire. The most common of these systems is the edgewise device. It is a series of elastic bands which secure the wire within the slot of each bracket. The bands come in a variety of colours, and you can order the colours which are popular. The other option is the self-ligating dental braces. The brackets, in this case, have a channel which the orthodontist can get through a spring-loaded door. The alternative is said to be very effective because there is no friction.

The Invisalign option

Not everyone feels comfortable showing off their braces. Invisalign has been around for close to two decades. They are transparent aligner plates which are attached to the surface of the teeth to push them back to their ideal position. Lingual braces are also an option. They are attached inside the tooth surface and are great for patients who do not want their braces seen.

Buying the right dental supplies is the start of a reliable dental practice. As an orthodontist, you need to make sure that your patients get the best supplies for treatment. Look for competent suppliers for all your dental needs and win the trust of your patients.
